Impressive! Oscar Jones’ PhD study is focused on the Fitz-Stirling section of the Gondwana Link. Last week, we were delighted to watch Oscar’s presentation at the Ecological Society of Australia conference in Adelaide: “Optimising direct seeding outcomes in Southwest WA through a collaborative approach”.
His study, conducted through the ARC Training Centre for Healing Country at Curtin University, is focusing on tackling several key challenges associated with direct seeding projects at Bush Heritage’s (BHA) Ediegarrup Nature Reserve.
With support from BHA, Greening Australia, Nowanup, Wilga Farming, Native Seed Technology and Innovation Hub, and Gondwana Link, Oscar is evaluating the practicality of using agricultural air-seeders as a direct seeding method, as well as performing field and laboratory experiments to better understand what environmental conditions best suit key species often used in restoration activities in the region. Just what we need for scaling up the great work already underway.
