Dr Nicole Hodgson
State of the Link Coordinator

Since graduating from Murdoch University with First-Class Honours in Social Ecology, Nicole has worked in the environmental policy and sustainability sector in Western Australia. She has worked for the WA Local Government Association and in State Government, but mostly for the non-government sector (NGO) and in higher education.

In the early 2000s she coordinated the WA Collaboration, a partnership of WA NGOs from social, environmental and economic sectors, to respond to the State Government’s sustainability strategy

Since 2008 she has been a (mostly part-time) lecturer in sustainability at Murdoch University, allowing her time to work on projects closer to home with Green Skills in Denmark, and with Gondwana Link. For example, she worked with Gondwana Link Ltd to help develop the Heartland Journeys website and all the audio and video stories hosted there.

Nicole is passionate about creative forms of environmental story-telling. She recently completed a PhD in Environmental Humanities at UWA, combining environmental history, ecobiography, and life writing in telling the story of settler-colonist and botanical collector Sarah Brooks. For 2026, she is a Dahl Fellow with Eucalypts Australia, developing stories on six Eucalypt species across the Gondwana Link that explore connections between plants and humans.

She recently joined Gondwana Link as Coordinator of the State of the Link process, which aims to document what has changed and what is changing across the Gondwana Link pathway, as well as the contribution of Gondwana Link Ltd and the broader network of groups.
